postcard perfect: the latvian national opera

Spread the love

postcards, Latvia,

This official card {ID#:LV-68500} is also my first from Latvia. It showcases the Kansallisooppera Die Nationaloper {whew, sure is such a mouthful! ;)} or the Latvian National Opera, which includes the LNO chorus, the LNO orchestra + the Latvian National Ballet.

  • it was founded in 1912 by Pāvuls Jurjāns
  • it restarted in 1918 by Jāzeps Vītols, founder of the Latvian Academy of Music
  • Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer was the debut performance at the opera house {January 23, 1919}
  • it was constructed in 1863 by architect Ludwig Bohnstedt
 Here’s the message at the back:
postcards, Latvia,
He did not sign his name, but his profile says Andrew. Thanks for sending this lovely card my way! 😉
