bulacan daily: marcelo h. del pilar day

 Bulacan daily, Bulacan Heroes

Apart from being my little man’s birthday, another person was born today all those many years ago + I blame my forgetful mind for not remembering. I studied in a high school named after him + we are called Del Pilarians so I ought not forget.

Marcelo H. Del Pilar was born in Cupang, Bulacan, Bulacan on August 30, 1850. He is most distinguished with his works with La Solidaridad {as a writer + co-publisher} + is also popularly known by his nom-de-plume, Plaridel {which also happens to be a name of another town here in our province}. He also spearheaded the secret organization of masonic lodges in the Philippines to strengthen the propaganda movement, which aimed he the title Father of Philippine Masonry. One of his famed work is Dasalan at Tocsohan {Prayerbook + Teasing Game}, comprised of parodies of the sign of the cross, popular prayers + the catechism.

He is another great reason for all of us Bulakeños to be proud of + one day when my little one is big enough I will tell him all about the great things that this Filipino hero did! 🙂

It goes without saying that today is a local holiday here in our province + most of the government establishment are closed down to commemorate Marcelo’s great deeds. It was a good thing I was able to do my errands yesterday, including mailing my postcards + paying my electricity bill. 😉

where-to-weekend, museums, fun places for children to visit, travel

We’ve been waiting for this cool toy museum to open so I can tag along the little man + see the life size Lightning McQueen they have so you can probably imagine my delight when I found out that they will be open to the public for one day on 26 August! Unfortunately we have to be somewhere else the same day so I guess we just might have to wait for its formal opening next month.

I bet my little man will definitely enjoy the place, especially now that he’s getting to know more + more characters that can be found in this awesome toy museum, including Batman, Spiderman, Woody + Buzz, + the Incredibles! 🙂

I have always dreamed of bringing Jared abroad one day so he can see the life size McQueen in the US, but can you believe my luck? All I need now is to bring him to Las Piñas to see one! 😉

postcard perfect: an art card from russia

postcard perfect, postcard, Russia, official postcrossing.com cards, Postcrossing.com

I got another official Postcrossing.com card {ID#:RU-953411}! Hooray! This is another painting by Boris Kustodiyev of probably one of his favorite subjects, his daughter Irina, titled At the Window – Irina Kustodiyava. This is painted in 1910. Check out this other postcard I got in the past that depicts another Kustodiyev painting of his little girl. I guess I am beginning to love his work, as well as his daughter, too, they are both growing on me. Hopefully I get to receive more of this type of postcards in the future! ^_^

Thanks Liera for this beautiful card + for the lovely note you wrote at the back:

Hello! I hope you like this card! I like art. And I really like this picture, painted in gouache. I recently started painting in oil. It’s fun! ^_^
