travel bucket list #6: the uk

travel, destination, travel tips, UK

I do not think I’ve mentioned often enough how much I’d love to visit the UK one day + how I’d be very much willing to pack my bags + fly to London Heathrow as soon as I can! Sigh, if only my pocket permits! What can I say, I find this country most fascinating. My almost 5-year post at a UK-based DA service call center have very much exposed me to the culture + the warm + generous people, as well as the prominent establishments + popular tourist attractions. Oh well, am sure my call center stint will be nothing compared to the actual thing + if I do not get a grip I’d probably drool just thinking about it! 🙂

Just imagine all those century-old cathedrals, castles + museums. I’d probably never know where to begin! At the top of my list, of course, are the Millenium Eye, Westminster Abbey, Harrods, Madame Tussauds, the Wembley Stadium. Am also eyeing a visit to the Globe Theatre + Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon. A quick stop at 10 Downing Street is also a must, as well as checking out the House of Parliament, going to the London Underground + having my photograph taken with the famous red telephone box! Not to mention the multitudes of pubs, hotels + nice homes (like onefinestay or AirBNB for example!) to check out.

So, what are the things to prepare when planning for a UK trip? Here are some of the things at the top of my head:

travel, travel tips, destination, UK

  • Pack those jackets + trench coats ~ The UK weather can be quite cold especially towards winter, so make sure you stock up on those jackets to bring along to your trip
  • Brush up on your British English ~ The UK English does not only sound more interesting than its American cousin but it can also get a bit tricky, too, especially for those clueless lot. Remember loo is the bathroom + the telly is your TV. Chips are their local french fries + if ever anyone asks you to give them a ring, they only meant for you to call them! 😉
  • Check out the local tourist information office ~ once you arrived, this ought to be your first destination, as this is where you can find pretty much everything you need to know about the place you’re visiting.
Oh well, I really hope I can visit the UK in this lifetime. I’d so love to visit the Harry Potter-inspired attraction + I bet my little man will definitely enjoy shopping for Pocoyo or Peppa Pig items! A trip sure won’t come cheap + it may take me loads of time to save up for it. Meanwhile, I’ll just brush up on my accent by watching those Harry Potter films with son! 😉

My bestfriend lives in Central London, this is why UK is also in my bucket list. I’m not sure when this will happen. But if it is God’s will for me to do, I will be able to fly there someday. 🙂

In my case, it is not just UK sis but the whole of Europe. Methinks that I have been a European in my past life–not that I believe in having a past life. LOL It is just that everything about Europe attracts me. It could be the beaches in Greece, the museums in France, the medieval castles in Scotland–whatever. I just want to tour Europe!

The spring months of March to May is always the best time to go to UK. I have a sister-in-law in the UK and we would often get invited during these months. The spring flowers always add a lovely touch of colour to all our souvenir photos.

The UK seems to be on everyone’s bucket list. Well, it is really a great place to visit. Aside from the palaces and historic buildings, there are also fascinating things that a traveler can find in the UK such as the language. As what you’ve said, some American English terms are different in British English.

UK is definitely included in my travel bucket list too! My hubby would love to visit the place where Freemasonry started.
