Accessible to both local and foreign tourists through Langkawi International Airport, Langkawi is a group of about 100 islands located merely 30 kilometers from the main coast of northwest Malaysia, off the Adaman Sea. It is mostly known for its numerous beaches and went on to become a top travel choice for tourists as it is a duty-free area. The Geopark, as declared by UNESCO in 2007, is among the top places any traveler must see once they set foot in Langkawi.

Even when public transport is noticeably missing in the islands of Langkawi, you will never run out of ways to explore this paradise as there are other mode of transportations to choose from that will maximize your Langkawi experience, not to mention agree with your wallet, too. Depending on your preference, you may either start roaming around in a taxi or a car rental, or you may always opt for one of those motorcycles or scooters for hire, which can be a cheaper and more practical way of exploring the island, especially its remotest parts. Many hotels also offer bikes-for-hire, in case any tourist fancy traversing this lovely island with them.

Of course, if you intend to hop from one island to the next, you might want to register for one of those tour packages to make your life easier. For a fee, you can participate in a guided tour of many of the islands while riding a boat. There is a mélange of different beaches in Langkawi for every beachcomber that wanders ashore starting with what’s considered the most popular of all, Pantai Cenang. Located at the southwest end of the island, this beach is best known for its fine white sand, as well as for the assortment of bars and restaurant fronting the beach, where the more adventurous tourists can go to party and dance to booming music and bass tuner.

Pantai Tengah, or the Middle Beach, on the other hand, is more popular with families and those who enjoy a more peaceful and reclusive beach to bask in. Meanwhile, the isolated beach of Pantai Kok, is also a popular pick mainly because of Telaga Harbour while those who enjoy scrutinizing age-old limestone caves and marveling at lush mangroves will readily pick Tanjung Rhu at any given time.

Out And about In Langkawi

Of course, you can only enjoy lying around lazily under the sun all day for a while, and once you outgrow the novelty it is a good thing there are plenty of other attractions and tourist spots to check out in Langkawi, beginning with the Seven Wells or the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls. The trip up to the 7 pools is not recommended for most, though, as you have to climb about 300 steps to get there.

Those who are not squeamish about heights can always give the Pantai Cenang cable car a try or better yet, go for a hike to the tallest mountain on the island, Gunung Raya. The most adventurous travelers can also visit the Crocodile Adventureland any time while those traveling with families and children can probably opt for fun and educational visits to the indoor aquarium of Underwater World or explore one of the many museums found locally, starting with Galeria Perdana.

Those who simply cannot get enough of nature and the outdoors will find visiting the local gardens a very rewarding experience. They can even stop by the Oriental Village and the Eagle Square while they are at it.

Enjoy A Seafood Feast

There is practically a restaurant at every resort which makes it very easy for every guest to grab a bite of the local seafood fare. Just be mindful that prices are based on weight or by sets required for the dish. Highly-recommended by the locals is the Wonderland restaurant and their chilly crab is said to be a must try, while those who want to have a taste of authentic Malay breakfast can always venture to the stall just across Underwater World for a hearty serving of their nasi lemak, best paired with a steaming cup of locally brewed coffee.
