Bulacan Daily: Sining Pandayan 2016

I have been too preoccupied with other things that Fiesta Republika came and went without me partaking in at least one of the many colorful activities they have lined up to commemorate the very first Philippine Republic formed in Malolos City centuries ago. It was too late when I chanced upon the tarps and the banners promoting the activities around the city in time for the festival. I’d be sure to keep an eye out on this celebration next year so we can participate.

Anyways, we had a chance to go out of our cocoon early this month for the Million Volunteer Run 3 {which I have yet to post on ze mum blog, by the way} and just in the nick of time as I saw this banner hanging at the eaves of Graceland Mall coming from the event at the Capitolyo Park.

There were similar art fairs held in Glorietta and Trinoma recently that I was really raring to check out and hoping to purchase a couple of brush pens to jump-start my calligraphy journey this year. But I was not able to make it on either of these fairs. Good thing one will be held soon and just here in my city!

Sining Pandayan 2016 will be held this coming 22-23 February, 2016 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center at the Capitolyo Grounds. Here are the list of the activities for the event:

  • Likhang Kamay: Arts & Crafts Fair ~ 22 & 23 February, 2016, 7am
  • Pandayan Bookshop 3rd Poster Making Contest ~ 22 February, 2016, 11am
  • Dance Sculpture Competition ~ 23 February, 2016, 11am
  • Caricature Seminar for Teachers ~ 22 & 23 February, 2016, 7am

The fair will be open from 7am-5pm and admission is only Php10, so if you happen to be free on these days, do not forget to check out the Sining Pandayan 2016 and have an enjoyable day making the crafter and the creative in you happy! Schedule of Events For The Fiesta Republica 2015!

January will be a very festive month in our city as we commemorate the formation of the Philippine’s First Republic on the 23rd. In line with this momentous occasion, the local city Government, led by our very dynamic City Mayor, lined-up a series of activities for everyone to partake in.

There will be a Short Film Festival to be held at local Cinemas joined in by local amateur film makers, a bike festival, a tricycle fest, several talent shows and contests joined in by musically-gifted Malolenos, as well as an assortment of other activities. The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra will also perform during the festival. One of the high, lights of the festivities is the reenactment of the activities that took place during the declaration of the very first Philippine Republic, when people from different parts of Luzon will come to Malolos to play brass band music on the streets in front of the Barasoain Church. We were able to watch the brass band competition about 2 years ago, where my brother’s band from Malolos won grand prize. The contest was judged by no less than Olivier Ochanine, Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra {PPO}. You may read about our experience here.

The activities will be held in different venues in our city, including the Barasoain Church Plaza, the Malolos Sports and Convention Center, among others.

If you are from Malolos or residing anywhere near, this month is the most ideal time to visit our little charming city and participate in the many fun, educational, and relevant activities our city lined up to commemorate the First Philippine Republic.

If traveling to Malolos for the first time, proceed to NLEX and take Tabang Exit. The city proper is about 15-20 minutes away from the Exit. Explore your way around by asking a local directions or proceed to the local Tourism Office. When commuting, you can ride one of those UV Express vans in Trinoma. Its terminal is at Malolos Crossing, where everything else is just a Karatig ride away.

Bulacan Daily: Fiesta Republica 2014

Our city is celebrating yet another Fiesta Republica this year and here is the list of festivities and activities happening all-month long in Malolos. This is in line with the commemoration of the very first Republic formed in Malolos through the Malolos Congress 115 years ago. The series of activities was spearheaded by the inauguration of Cine Republica in Robinson’s Place Malolos on 16 January and the celebration will continue on in February through the Republica Cup slated in 01-16 February at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center. Other activities worthy of mention include the very 1st Malolos City Bike Festival in 25 January, as well as the 115th Araw ng Republikang Filipino 1899 happening on 23 January at Barasoain grounds.

Hopefully we’d be able to participate in one of the activities. I remember watching the brass band competition last year as my brother was part of the band who represented Bulacan in the program and it was well worth it staying till the program ended as their band won the grand prize. I have a few errands to run today so I find myself traversing the rather busy streets of the City Center. It was a good thing most of the establishments are open today even when it is the Feast Day of The Immaculate Conception. The atmosphere around the Malolos Cathedral is very festive and all that’s missing is lively music from melodyne plugin at Musicians Friend, which am sure will be wafting in the air once the parade and the festivities begin. There was a stage in front of the cathedral where a program in honor of the Virgin Mother will be held later tonight. There are also colorful tarps and banderitas in the cathedral perimeter as if inviting everyone to join in on the fun. Too bad I won’t be able to hang around much longer to see all the beautiful Mary statues in the parade. The plaza will surely be filled with people once the parade starts and I do not want to be caught up in the middle of it. After all, I just left the little man to my sister’s care so that I can go about the errands I have scheduled for that day.

Malolos Cathedral, also knowns as the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, is one of the most well-known landmarks in our city. Apart from being the seat of the Diocese of Malolos, it has also played a very important role in Philippine History serving as the Presidential Palace during the First Philippine Republic between 1898 to 1899.

As for me, a visit to the church is always a treat and I will be sure to visit it soon, as well as my favorite chapel on its side, on a less busier day and I shall to tag along the little man.
