Visiting La Mesa Eco Park

parks, educational places for children to visit, travel, destination

We have long planned to visit La Mesa Eco Park and I am delighted that we finally managed to go there. Thanks to that Bogart Case Files episode that the little one saw that got him all psyched to visit the place. I did include visiting more parks in our list of things-to-do this year, so I thought a trip to this park is in order.

We have planned to visit La Meso Eco Park way back when the little man is just a little pea inside my tummy but we never got the chance to pursue the plan as we got busy and preoccupied. Good thing we finally managed to visit the place earlier this year {yes, this is a very long overdue post!}. And it is also good that we waited this long to visit as the experience was surely much more enjoyable with the little man around.

Our experience sure went hand in hand with our plan to spend more time outdoors this year, and lucky for us, the heavens also cooperated by giving us a very sunshine-y weather. It was nearly lunch time when we arrived and it was good that there are a number of stores serving food inside the premises, at very affordable prices, too. We settled for grilled fish and pork liempo. Jared refused to have lunch and explored the playground just behind the place where we chose to eat lunch. There is a big slide and a monkey bar, where other children were also playing at the time.

We proceed to exploring the park after having lunch. I do not know exactly how big it was, but it sure was a massive place to take on foot and it is advisable to start walking and exploring early. The expanse of trees and greens was also enough to relax anyone who visits. There are a number of park goers at the time, and some where either taking lunch or taking a break from walking in one of the many cabanas available around. These cabanas are for rent at Php500 for the entire day. Since we plan to walk more and explore, we decided against renting a cabana and started our tour. For those who prefer guided tours, tour guides are also available for a fee.  Continue reading

fun family bonding at the robot zoo

Robot Zoo, NIDO FORTIFIED Science Discovery Center, travel, Where-to-Weekend, educational places for children to visit

We had the chance to spend a wonderful afternoon two Saturdays ago at the Robot Zoo, which is located at the 2nd Level of the NIDO FORTIFIED Science Discovery Center. My sister Isabel accompanied me + the little man for this early evening event at the Mall of Asia.

We arrived at the Robot Zoo a wee bit late due to a little emergency, the program has already started when we showed up to register for the event. Many familiar friendly faces are present in the occasion, most of whom are mum blogger friends with their little one in tow. Refreshments were served by Big Chill {I love their refreshing watermelon shake}  along with tasty doughnuts from Krispy Kreme + pizza from Yellow Cab.

Not long after we arrived, the kiddos + grown ups alike are asked to queue so that  we can finally check out The Robot Zoo! The little man looked really excited as he grabbed another mommy blogger friend’s hand to get in line!

The tall robot giraffe welcomes everyone to this electronic menagerie upon entrance, promising only beautiful + interesting things to come! Everyone is excited to see everything that is on display, so we went on to check out the first thing that caught our eyes! Big installations of robot animals, including the platypus, the giant squid, the larger-than-life fly + ant, the enchanting chameleon, the rhino, + the grasshopper, will surely catch everyone’s attention, especially those of the little ones. My son was all over the place in no time, checking out one display after another. I love the idea that this place is really interactive + there are loads of wonderful stuff to get little chubby hands busy! Jared was checking out dials, knobs + bolts. He even had a go at this little racetrack for tortoises, too bad he ran out of turtle shells at the time! 😉

Apart from being totally fun + enjoyable, I also love that this place is also educational + that kids + adults alike will learn loads of new things. The little ones get to check out how chameleon moves his body + head, as well as try to be chameleons for the day, too! The children also discovered how to see using a fly’s vision {I cannot help but try this out myself!}, as well as discover a whole lot of new + interesting things about these animals + how they go about in their daily lives.

The fun + interactive installations of tablets + pads here + there, along with the educational applications + programs found in them, also added another thrill to this place. Even though his little hands can barely reach one of the pads, Jared cannot help but try some of them out. There were educational alphabet, puzzles + number games. There was even an interactive chessboard shown in one of the bigger monitors. I’d say the Php200 admission fee is well worth it!

After we’ve checked out the entire place + took photos of almost everything found in it, including one beside Astroboy, we made a beeline back to where the program was held + while eating + resting our feet, the children are treated to a round of games + prizes, too! The little man particularly had fun seeing all these many kids at one place {you can check out his post, to see for yourself! ;)}. He posed with a lot of other kiddos + tried to participate in the games, too. + even though our group {of course the mums had to pitch in afterwards} did not win, the little man was able to take home a Nickelodeon gift pack, that contains an eco-bag {yey!}, a roller band, and a number of stationery, after all!
