A New Gotochi Card From Japan

postcards, special postcards, Gotochi, Japan, official postcrossing.com cards

Receiving Gotochi cards are really quite a treat. For those who are not in the know, Gotochi are those uber cute shaped cards that originated from Japan.

And here’s what Wiki Answers has to say about a Gotochi:

A gotochi card is a Japanese postcard that is irregularly shaped and shows a colorful cartoon scene/item symbolic of the particular prefecture/region/city it is sold in. For example, a gotochi card from Tokyo might show tall buildings or one from Kyoto might show a geisha. The name of the area is printed on the card. Because of their irregular shapes and sizes, they cost more to send than regular postcards.

I recently got one in the mail and boy was I really delighted to get it. It was an official Postcrossing.com card with ID#:  JP-405701. It was sent by Masayo who lives in Tokyo and works at Japanese Language School.

Thank you so much for this lovely Gotochi card Masayo. Am sending a thank you card your way real soon!  😀

Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto

Here is another official Postcrossing.com card {ID#: JP-384859} and it features Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto. According to the sender, Sheluna, this temple is very famous and has big wooden stage. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. She also mentions that a lot of tourists from around the world visit Kyoto and that this historical city is a popular sight-seeing city and is well-known for its beautiful temples and shrines.

This is a really beautiful sight and I love the cherry blossom in the left, too. This card also reminds me of thule ski rack, skiing and snow!

love the Japanese stamps, too! 🙂

Thank you for sending this card, I simply love it and I would really love to visit this place one day.

pink hello kitty postcard from japan

postcards, Japan

I think I have mentioned many times before that Japanese postcards are some of those that I love the best. They simply are the cutest + the most beautiful. Take for example this lovely Hello Kitty postcard. Isn’t she a cutey? It depicts Hello Kitty in various traditional Japanese kimono. Sigh, if only for the wonderful postcards + the idyllic cherry blossoms, I’d really love to visit Japan one day 😉

Thank you mommy Clarissa for sending this beauty + for the equally lovely note you wrote on my card! 😉

a pink sakura blossoms postcard from japan

postcards, souvenirs, postcrossing

Aren’t they fabulously pink? 🙂 These are cherry blossoms + I got this beautiful postcard recently. This is sent to me by fellow Postcrossing Enthusiasts member, mommy Clarissa, who blogs at Brilliant Days + hails from Fukushima. Those Japanese postcards are one of my favorites + this one is no exception.

According to the sender the Japanese people loves to go out with their families + friends for a hanami or cherry blossoms viewing. They bring along food + drinks + sit under the sakura {cherry blossoms} trees, much like a picnic. Now that is one activity I would love for me + the little man to partake, I bet it will be loads of fun + it will be one fantastic adventure to marvel at the beauty of those sakura trees. Sakura is also known as the ume tree + this practice dates back to the Nara Period {710-794} that Japanese people admired the ume blossoms for the first time. The custom was originally limited to the elite members of the Imperial Court, but soon spread out to the samurai community + to the common people by the Edo Period

This postcard came with these equally colorful flower stamps:

Thank you, Mommy Clang, for this wonderful postcard 🙂
