postcard perfect: the latvian national opera

postcards, Latvia, Postcrossing.com

This official Postcrossing.com card {ID#:LV-68500} is also my first from Latvia. It showcases the Kansallisooppera Die Nationaloper {whew, sure is such a mouthful! ;)} or the Latvian National Opera, which includes the LNO chorus, the LNO orchestra + the Latvian National Ballet.

  • it was founded in 1912 by Pāvuls Jurjāns
  • it restarted in 1918 by Jāzeps Vītols, founder of the Latvian Academy of Music
  • Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer was the debut performance at the opera house {January 23, 1919}
  • it was constructed in 1863 by architect Ludwig Bohnstedt
 Here’s the message at the back:

The first one features a very colorful Australian bird whilst the second one shows one of the amazing views you can find at the New England Wilderness National Park in New South Wales, also known as the New England National Park, or NENP, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage in 1986. Situated on the Northern Tablelands, it also forms part of the New England Group of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.

postcard perfect: bangkok, thailand

postcards, souvenirs

This multi-view postcard features the beautiful capital city of Thailand, Bangkok. Here are a few trivia about this beautiful place, according to Mr. Wiki:

  • it is also known as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon or simply Krung Thep, which translates to “City of Angles”
  • it is also the largest urban city of the country
  • it is formerly called Siam
  • among its numerous attractions that draw a large number of tourists each year, are: Vimanmek Palace Complex, Grand Palace + Wat Arun
  • it is sub-divided into 50 districts or what the locals called khet

This lovely postcard was sent to me by fellow Postcrossing Enthusiasts member, Cheerful, who blogs at PostCrossing MoM. I particularly look forward to receiving cards from her, apart from sending all those beautiful postcards, she also makes it a point to fill the other side of the card with lovely messages + fun trivia about the place. I also love her cursive handwriting + the equally great cards she used^_^

postcard perfect: a snowman from belarus

postcard perfect, souvenirs, postcards

I got this very nice postcard last January. Apart from being my very first one that features a snowman in it, this is also the first time I am receiving a card from Belarus. Here are a few trivia on this country according to Mr. Wiki:

  • a country in Eastern Europe, bordered clockwise by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest
  • it is officially the Republic of Belarus, with Minsk as the Capital city {+ the largest one, too}
  • its currency is Belarusian Rubble
  • its people are called Belarusian

The postcard came with this equally lovely stamps, which, now that I think about it, makes my postcard a maxicard, right? Oh well, maxicard or not, I just love this postcard. This came from Lana-Minks of Postcrossing.com 🙂

My share for Postcard Perfect this week…
