A Postcard From Starring You

postcards, smile cards, special postcards, Starring You

This Hongkong Postcard is the 3rd card I got from Starring You, if my memory will serve me right. It is always a joy to receive a postcard in the mail, especially if it is a surprise! For those who are in the know, Starring You is a Facebook Page that aims to spread postcrossing everywhere and sends a free postcard to anyone who messaged them with their mailing details. Isn’t this a cool idea to spread postcrossing to the world and to think that they even do this free of charge!

Here is a brief description about Starring You I’ve chanced upon on their Fan Page:

Nowadays we receive electronic messages via Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, MSN and many other online media. Did we forget how it was to receive something tangible from the mailman? A card or a letter from another city, country or perhaps even from another continent. We’ll write you a personal message from one of the wonderful places we’ll visit and this message will travel all the way to your home.

Our mission is to share as many beautiful places as possible with everybody who’s interested. Not everybody has the time, the means or the opportunity to travel, but via Starring You we hope to take you all with us around the world!

Sometimes we will also surprise you by sending you the banknotes or coins that we’ve got left from the countries that we’ve visited!

The service is completely for free, because of our donors. After receiving your first handwritten mail you can decide to donate, but that’s completely on voluntary basis. Sometimes we do something special for our donors. For example, the postcards from Malawi and Zambia were exclusively for the people who help us financially. For support via PayPal you can use this address: starringyou@outlook.com. If you have any questions about supporting Starring You, just write us a message for more information.

Our team consists out of Michael, a former student from The Netherlands, and some people who help him to keep everything running smoothly.

Starring You have been in so many different countries, including Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia and a bunch of others. In August, they visited Hong Kong, Macau, The Netherlands and Belgium. I think they also went to Japan. Some wonderful time they sure are having exploring and traveling the world, right? I won’t mind doing the same, if given the chance!

Big shout outs to Starring You for taking the time to write out this card for me in between their trips. I particularly love receiving their surprise cards because of the many stars they lovingly wrote at the back. How many do you think these are?

Anyway, I will find time to look for the other cards Starring You sent me this weekend so that I might share them here, too. Do stay tuned for that and a lovely weekend to all!

Calling all postcrossing avids! Someone is just losing hope in postcards, saying that nobody writes them anymore! You can check out details of that bold statement on this forum post.

Agree to disagree? Oh well if you are you up for the challenge of proving them wrong, you may want to give this poor guy some love by sending a postcard or two his way. Here is the address:

Let’s fill his mailbox with postcards so that he will soon forget about his funny statement, shall we!  😀

a smile card to grant a wish

postcards for a cause, smile card

I have chanced upon this site while I was browsing one early morning through my various postcard swapping groups on Facebook. It is always a delight to spread some cheers to total strangers through my postcards so I went ahead + sent a smile card for this person.

Here’s an excerpt from the site:

Wish of a Lifetime needs your help to fulfill the Wish of a caring and compassionate 70 year old who is in the end stages of COPD, and all you need to do is send a postcard. Tom Burgett of Alabama has been fascinated by the vast diversity of cultures throughout our World. Unfortunately, Tom’s ability to travel has become unfeasible given his current medical ailments. Spending most days at home, besides the occasional doctor’s visit – Tom is worried that the outside world will pass him by.

Do not forget to share this on Twitter, too, by using the hashtag #tomswish, to let more people know, right? 😉 I just hope Tom likes this colorful Ati-Atihan Festival Card that I sent him!

postcards for a cause

postcards, smile cards, postcards for a cause

I was lazily browsing online the other night, checking out this site that offers omnimount + similar products when I stumbled upon some opportunities to send smile cards {or those that you’d send without expecting something in return} or what I’d like to call postcards for a cause. It was posted in one of the numerous Postcard Swap Groups that I joined on Facebook.

Here is what the post says:

Hi everyone : I was just hoping I could get your help with something. Some friends of a friend have found out that their 4 year old son, Charlie, is suffering from a terminal brain tumour, and has only a few months to live. The family’s top priority is to make Charlie’s last days as memorable as possible. One of the things Charlie absolutely loves is receiving post, and he always rushes out to collect the post each morning. As such, his parents have started a postcard campaign, and are asking as many people as possible to send a postcard to Charlie, with just a simple, cheerful message on it. (Please do not mention his illness or include get well wishes.) If you are able to do this, it would really make a difference for Charlie and would be a great help and support for his parents during this difficult time.

If you would be kind enough to send this little boy a postcard or two, kindly send them to:

Another postcard for a cause will go to Wash + Tash, a young couple from Arizona, USA. Wash is suffering from brain cancer + Tash is looking after him, while waiting for her husband to fade away + die. I cannot imagine the kind of pain + suffering they are both experiencing at the moment, but I wish a postcard in their mailbox will somehow ease the pain + make the days brighter. Read more about their story from their  blog. + do send a postcard to this address:
