Sunday Stamps: Pasko 2014 Stamps

I have not been really active with swapping postcards of late as I’ve one too many preoccupations, but I managed to swap a couple of cards over the course of 2 weeks and look what I got in the mail recently along with the lovely card ~ this lovely Pasko 2014 stamp, which was recently released in our country.

Here is a brief description about the Pasko 2014 stamps from phlpost.gov.ph:

Block of 4 stamps depicting the Filipino Christmas in artwork and when put side by side in a block of four, the four stamps form the Filipino lantern in the middle.

  • Stamp 1 features the new born Jesus with Mary and Joseph in traditional Filipino clothing
  • Stamp 2 features the all time favorite Christmas caroling
  • Stamp 3 “Pagmamano”, a symbol of respect for elderly Filipinos
  • Stamp 4 is an illustration of the traditional Noche Buena or the Christmas Eve feast of every Filipino family

Thank you so much Raine for sending me the lovely card along with the stamp. Hopefully I’d be able to get some of these stamps when I visit the local Post Office to send some cards next week.

Sunday Stamps: Stamps From Everywhere

stamps, sunday stamps, Finland, Bahrain

It is the weekend once again and before we head out to visit my parents’ graves, here are my Sunday Stamps share for the week. This week’s theme is “anything you wish,” so I opt for these lovely stamps readily available on my computer. This first stamp is from Finland and I love it for the beautiful colors and because it is a shaped stamp. I rarely get shaped stamps, so this one is really a welcome treat!

These next set of stamps are from Bahrain and was included in the Eid Mubarak card I received last year from a friend residing in Bahrain. The first stamp features the Arab Summit Conference and one of the participating countries, Mauritania. This set is comprised of 22 different stamps, one for each participating countries of the conference.

Sunday Stamps: Hot Rods Forever Stamps

sunday stamps, stamps, USA

Tomorrow’s classes are suspended due to the bad weather and I had the luxury of time to stay up a bit lot late to watch a favorite film and tinker on the blogs while the little man is fast asleep after a day of playing and watching the telly. Quite timely, too, as it has been some time since I updated this blog and joined Sunday Stamps.

I am glad I am joining today as the theme is one of my faves, automobiles and motor transport. I collect cards with Lightning McQueen in it because he is the little man’s most favorite character of all. Last month we received yet another McQueen postcard and it came with this awesome automobile stamps from the US. These stamps are part of the Limited Edition Hot Rods Forever Stamps and features two 1932 Ford Deuce roadsters ~ one with orange flames and a red ’32 Ford. Aren’t they the coolest?

According to the USPS site, usps.com, the Hot Rods Forever Stamps Collection was released in June of this year. The stamps were designed by Washington, DC’s Derry Noyes and were digitally created by John Mattos, a San Francisco artist. According to Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe, these Hot Rods stamps mark the beginning of America’s fascination with customizing fast cars. These stamps, according to him are timeless in that they’re good for mailing First-Class letters anytime in the future. The Hot Rods Forever Stamps are available in 8 different philatelic products, including Press Sheet with Die Cut, First Day Covers {set of 2}, stamp sheets, and Digital Color Postmark {set of 2}.

I am glad to have these Hot Rods stamps in my collection and I hope to receive more in the future. For more cool automobile and motor transport stamps, do click the Sunday Stamp badge at the top of this post.

For this week’s Sunday Stamps we are to share anything we like, thus, am sharing one of my faves, the Harry Potter Forever Stamps. I got this booklet earlier late last year through a personal swap with one of my fellow Postcrossing Philippines member, Arnold. I received the stamp booklet earlier this year and, I guess it goes without saying that I was really delighted to get it!

Hogwarts professors Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall and Hagrid

The booklet is comprised of 20 stamps that features our beloved Harry Potter franchise characters including Harry Potter himself, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, The Weasley Twins Fred and George, Ginny Weasley, and Luna Lovegood. It also features our beloved Hogwarts professors Dumbledore, McGonagall , Hagrid and Snape, as well as the other beautiful characters in the stories, Hedwig, Faux, Buckbeak and everyone’s fave, Dobby. Of course, the collection will never be complete without the villains Bellatrix Lestrange and He-who-must-not-be-named himself, Lord Voldermort.

for those hiding in the cave, here is a brief background about Harry Potter + his wonderful world

The stamp booklet sure is a perfect way to look back at the stories that have been very close to my heart. Seeing them on these stamps made me want to revisit the books and films all over again. I have recently seen one of the films with my little man and we plan to watch each and everyone before the summer break is over. I also intend to re-read the novels as soon as I find the time to do so. Continue reading
