A Map Card of Isle Of Man

postcards, map cards, Isle of Man, UK

I got this almost-mapcard of Isle of Man from a direct swap with Gilly. the same person who sent me the Harry Potter 3D postcard.

Here are a few interesting trivia about Isle of Man:

  • Capital and largest city is Douglas
  • Ellan Vannin is Isle of Man’s name in Manx Gaelic language
  • Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state

Too bad Gilly was not able to write anything at the back of the card, I would’ve loved to share it with you all. Nevertheless, massive thanks for this colorful card! šŸ™‚

My Very First Harry Potter Postcard!

postcards, special postcards, UK

I am such a Harry Potter addict! I read all the books {twice or three times each!} and watched all the movies over and over again, too! That is why it has been a long-time dream to have a few Harry Potter postcards in my collection. I have actually swapped with someone from Australia and the UK for a couple of HP postcards last year. Unfortunately, I was not able to receive the envelopes they sent me which contained 3 to 4 HP cards each. It was really heartbreaking and I am still hoping I will get those envelopes, but it seemed like the chances are getting slimmer as months passed by šŸ™

Gilly, bless her generous heart, was more than willing to send me another card when she found out that I was not able to get the ones she previously sent. And what do you know, I got the card a few days ago and I simply love it! It was a 3D Hologram Harry Potter postcard featuring Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape, Hermione Granger and Ā Bellatrix Lestrange. Hopefully I’d be able to add a few more cards to this collection in the future.

Massive thanks Gilly for sending this lovely card, even my little man loved it! I will be sure to write you a thank you postcard once I am done reading about thisĀ software security solutionsĀ article online! ā™„

travel bucket list #6: the uk

travel, destination, travel tips, UK

I do not think I’ve mentioned often enough how much I’d love to visit the UK one day + how I’d be very much willing to pack my bags + fly to London Heathrow as soon as I can! Sigh, if only my pocket permits! What can I say, I find this country most fascinating. My almost 5-year post at a UK-based DA service call center have very much exposed me to the culture + the warm + generous people, as well as the prominent establishments + popular tourist attractions. Oh well, am sure my call center stint will be nothing compared to the actual thing + if I do not get a grip I’d probably drool just thinking about it! šŸ™‚

Just imagine all those century-old cathedrals, castles + museums. I’d probably never know where to begin! At the top of my list, of course, are the Millenium Eye, Westminster Abbey, Harrods, Madame Tussauds, the Wembley Stadium. Am also eyeing a visit to the Globe Theatre + Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon. A quick stop at 10 Downing Street is also a must, as well as checking out the House of Parliament, going to the London Underground + having my photograph taken with the famous red telephone box! Not to mention the multitudes of pubs, hotelsĀ + nice homes (likeĀ onefinestayĀ or AirBNB for example!) to check out.

So, what are the things to prepare when planning for a UK trip? Here are some of the things at the top of my head:

travel, travel tips, destination, UK

  • Pack those jackets + trench coats ~ The UK weather can be quite cold especially towards winter, so make sure you stock up on those jackets to bring along to your trip
  • Brush up on your British English ~ The UK English does not only sound more interesting than its American cousin but it can also get a bit tricky, too, especially for those clueless lot. Remember loo is the bathroom + the telly is your TV. Chips are their local french fries + if ever anyone asks you to give them a ring, they only meant for you to call them! šŸ˜‰
  • Check out the local tourist information office ~ once you arrived, this ought to be your first destination, as this is where you can find pretty much everything you need to know about the place you’re visiting.Ā
Oh well, I really hope I can visit the UK in this lifetime. I’d so love to visit the Harry Potter-inspired attraction + I bet my little man will definitely enjoy shopping for Pocoyo or Peppa Pig items! A trip sure won’t come cheap + it may take me loads of time to save up for it. Meanwhile, I’ll just brush up on my accent by watching those Harry Potter films with son! šŸ˜‰

river avon, stratford-upon-avon

postcards, UK, Postcrossing EnthusiastsHere’s what the back of the card says:

The Royal Shakespeare Company Theater lies in an enviable position on the banks of the River Avon. From the riverside terrace, visitors may watch pleasure boats pass, or glimpse the Tower of the Holy Trinity Church, the site of Shakespeare’s baptism + his final resting place.

Towns in England have the most peculiar names, won’t you agree? Some like Stratford-Upon-Avon, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne + Stoke-On-Trent, gives tribute to the bodies of water nearby. Another classic example is Kingston-Upon-Thames which was aptly named for its proximity to the River Thames. I am sure there are Ā loads of otherĀ interesting stuffs to discover in the UK apart from the very peculiar town names: the lovely estates + manors, the warm people, the unbelievably uncluttered streets, which are just peppered with pedestrians walking about, bystanders or bikers clad in their colorfulĀ scorpion helmets.

postcards, UK, Postcrossing Enthusiasts

This card was sent to me by fellow Postcrossing Enthusiasts member, Krissa, who blogs about her postcard collection at Connections to the World,Ā who was in the UK recently.Ā The UK is one of the places I would love to visit with my little man someday. Some of the things I’d like to check out include The Wembley Stadium, Westminster Abbey, as well as the numerous castles + museums. If I could, I would also love to check out the 2012 Summer Olympics that will open real soon in London!

Thank you Krissa for sharing your UK adventure with me through this card! šŸ™‚
