top 5 things to do in baguio: go to bell church

Top 5 things to do in baguio, travel, destination, Baguio

It was rather serendipitous that we made it to Bell Church. See it was not even included in our Baguio travel itinerary. What happened was the friendly taxi driver we flagged down at the Strawberry Farm to bring us to back to Baguio City suggested the place. The moment we set foot in it, I was delighted that we heed his advice.

Bell Church reminds me so much of the Taoist Temple in Cebu {was not able to see this one for real, but I received a beautiful postcard featuring this site not long ago}, and the surroundings conjure images of China, thanks to the pagodas and the dragons.

It was a little before lunch time when we arrived, but unfortunately the temple closed for lunch break and we were not able to explore inside and see the monks. But the view outside is just as beautiful and we took those many steps to get to the top-most part of the Church and view the rest of the city from there, with my little man, in tow.

I love the landscape, but most especially, we love the lotus pond + the one with koi fish in it. Jared developed this special fondness for them, too, and threw a few coins onto the water. I just hope he’s old enough to whisper a wish or two. 🙂

This place is so tranquil + if only we’re not starving + not pressed for time, we could’ve lingered much longer and wait until the temple reopens. Nevertheless, I am just glad we made a quick stop to this place, otherwise, I would’ve really regretted it!

Am sharing the lovely water photos with Blog Photo Challenge {entry#11} + #fmsphotoaday

Baguio Country Club’s Christmas Village

travel, travel destination, Baguio

It was a bit late and the whole place was blanketed with pitch blackness when we went to Camp John Hay during our trip to Baguio in November. What can I say, we were caught up with other places to visit there hardly isn’t enough time for each one of them. The only place we were able to see at John Hay was the log cabin-inspired Starbucks branch, where we had a quick late snack. It was a good thing we saw this place flickering with lights and activities amid the blacken November night. Turned out, it was the Baguio Country Club’s Christmas Village.

The little man absolutely enjoyed our time here and I am just glad we were able to do so, the efforts we put in going to John Hay was not wasted! 🙂 The queue to the entrance is quite long and we had to wait for a few minutes to get in. Slippers and flip flops are also also not allowed so I had to borrow my sister’s sandals as I’ve decided to meander that day in my reliable flip flops!

My brother accompanied me and the little man inside and of course, it also goes without saying that he will  be the official photographer of this adventure, hence, you won’t find him in any of our shots. He was not too fond of them anyway!

As soon as we get in, the little man’s eyes grew big with wonder and awe at all the lovely and colorful installations. There were big makeshift houses, chimneys and mushrooms made from cardboard  there are also a number of Christmas trees in different colors. It was amazing to find out that all the displays and installations here are made from recycled materials. I cannot imagine how many pre-used cardboard and plastic cups they used, as well as the number of deburring tools they needed to make all these beautiful things!

Nativity characters roam around the place and were also game enough to pose for a photo or two with guests. We had photos taken with huge gifts, the three kings and the lovely green fairies who reminded me so much of Tinkerbell! And did I mention the place is also white all over, as soap bubbles and ice are used to make for improvised snow?

For admission fees of P40 for adults and P10 for children 3 years old and below, I’d say this place is really a great find. My little man gamely posed on every nook and cranny until our camera went dead! He surely had a wonderful time and probably thought that the place is one giant Christmas playground, which, come to think of it, is what it is exactly!

The place will be open until 06 January 2013, so be sure to tag along your little ones and bring them to this Christmas-y place! 🙂

top 5 things to do in Baguio: visit Bencab Museum + Cafe Sabel

travel, Baguio, destination, top 5 places to visit in Baguio, travel destination, travel + children, educational places for children to visitThe third on my list of top 5 things to do in Baguio is to visit Bencab Museum + Cafe Sabel in Asin. It took us almost half an hour to get there + the place is not really on the busiest side of town, so it took us another 10 to 15 minutes of walk back to civilization where public transport is located {+ did I tell you that the road is elevated? We are in the mountains, after all}, bit if only for the beautiful + magnificent art works found in this quaint museum, I’d say our trip was well worth it!

I always love going to museums + there’s nothing like dabbing into the amazing + wonderful world of the arts + artworks. We took the time photographing every nook + cranny that caught our fancy, discovering each + every gallery in the museum.

+ when all the walk + the art made us hungry we went straight down to Cafe Sabel to sample what this treasure-in-the-mountain has to offer. From the lovely paintings on the wall, to the espresso kitchen cabinets, to the colorful tables + chairs and the divine food, I tell you we were not disappointed as it was one gastronomic experience! I won’t go into the delicious details as I’d love to tackle more about it on my food blog, but I’ve got a few samplers on the photos + I’ll just let them speak for themselves! 😉

We cap off our visit by dropping by the museum shop to get some souvenirs. I got a matching Bencab Museum shirt for me + the little man, as well as a pack of these beautiful Bencab paintings-made-into-postcards, which I shall also share with  you in another post.

Our trip to Asin was all worth it, + I am sure we’ll go there again the next time we go back to Baguio.

How was your experience at the Bencab Museum?

top 5 things to do in Baguio: have your photos taken with the st. bernards at Mines View Park

travel, Baguio, travel destination, top 5 things to do in Baguio

Here is another one of my top 5 things to do in Baguio posts. + one of the things you cannot do anywhere else but in Baguio is to have your photos taken with the St. Bernard dogs at Mines View Park. The little one was thrilled to have his photo taken with the huge dog, he even obliged to pet it on the neck.

Even when we were not able to have our photo taken with the biggest dog there is {we sort of were taken aback by the dog owner’s attitude, so we opted for another dog instead, even when his seemed to be the most handsome in the pack :(} this photo will go down to our Baguio Trip scrapbook! + don’t you find this dog sooo adorable, too!

There are plenty of them St. Bernard’s at Mines View Park so do not just settle with the first one you see. This one we opted for charges P50 for 3 shots + I tell  you it is not such a bad deal! Among our three shots, I find the one above the most share-worthy of all. Watch out for the little man’s solo shot on Jared’s Little Corner 🙂

Anyway, apart from having your photos taken with the humongous dogs, the view from the Mines View Park is quite breathtaking! You might as well take loads of shots of you + the family with the amazing background while you’re there. You may not find a lot of pirelli motorcycle tires for sale at the park, but there are also lots of stalls around selling beautiful + affordable Baguio products + wares, so do not forget to go around + shop, too!

More of our Baguio Trip soon. Happy Saturday everyone! 😉
